Workshop:  Authentic learning:  Authentic materials in the classroom

Use of authentic materials, a domain of authentic learning, has become more prevalent with the advent of high-speed communications (5G and broadband internet) and smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices which are becoming a regular part of the classroom environment. Learning-by-doing is generally considered the most effective way to learn. The internet and a variety of emerging communication, visualization, and simulation technologies now make it possible to offer students authentic learning experiences ranging from experimentation to real-world problem solving. In this workshop, we will explore what constitutes authentic learning and authentic materials, how technology supports it, what makes it effective, and why it is important. We will evaluate the pros, cons and logistics using authentic materials the classroom.
